Gold Just Hit a Record High — Is It Too Late to Buy?

Ark Insights · The Macro Telescope

1. After a record high, the panic always returns

When gold hits a record, ten times more people ask "can I still buy now?" than when it's low. That's human nature: we only feel "I should have bought" after it rises, then fear "it might go lower" once it falls. We get the anxiety — but the logic of holding gold should never be led around by price.

2. What role does gold actually play in your assets?

Fix the role first, then talk about timing. Gold isn't an offensive asset for "trading the spread" — it's a defensive asset, an insurance policy, the ultimate floor when the fiat-credit system shakes. Its job is to preserve purchasing power in extreme scenarios, not to beat equities in calm times.

So the right way to ask "is it too late to buy now?" is actually: have you filled your defensive position yet?

3. 5% is an anchor, not a prediction

Our consistent advice: keep roughly 5% of family assets in physical gold as a floor. This isn't a forecast on gold's price; it's a structural "insurance quota." Whether gold makes a new high or pulls back, this anchor shouldn't drift with emotion.

If you haven't allocated yet, a record high isn't a reason to "not buy" — it's a reminder that the defensive gap has been there all along.

4. Gold's partner is an asset that generates cash flow

Gold's biggest weakness is that it earns no yield — hold it a hundred years and the grams stay the same, purchasing power roughly holds, but no extra "interest" is produced. So once defense is done, you need a piece that generates cash flow and compounds long-term to partner with it.

That piece is usually the Hong Kong savings policy we keep coming back to: one still (gold), one moving (the policy) — only together do you have a complete offense and defense.

Gold tells you "don't lose it all"; a policy tells you "you can still grow." Only together do they count as allocation.

5. From the Ark's viewpoint

The short-term level of gold can't decide your long-term safety; whether you've held the line can.
